The unexpected return of veteran political adviser Salim Lone at President William Ruto’s Cabinet retreat has sent ripples through Kenya’s political scene and reignited debate over his role in the shifting power dynamics.

Lone, once a key strategist and spokesman for Raila Odinga, appeared alongside the former Prime Minister at the high-level government gathering. In a widely circulated video, President Ruto is seen warmly welcoming both Raila and Lone, with Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi present during the exchange.

Lone’s presence has triggered quiet murmurs within political corridors, with some interpreting it as a possible signal of evolving alliances.

In 2018, Lone made headlines after praising then-Deputy President Ruto as the most organized politician in the country. He later retired in 2020 and moved to the U.S., stepping away from active politics.
