Steve Abdul Kairo, the transport manager of Nakumatt, has been granted bail after being charged with the murder of a casual worker at the supermarket’s headquarters.

Judge Jessie Lessit set the bond at 2 million shillings, requiring one surety of the same amount or an alternative cash bail of 1 million shillings. The incident in question occurred on November 10, 2015, when Kairo allegedly shot 23-year-old Stephen Wafula Musumbi twice in the chest under circumstances that remain unclear.

Reports indicate that Musumbi, who appeared to be experiencing a mental health crisis, was chasing his colleagues while wielding a panga, resulting in one worker sustaining injuries. It is claimed that Kairo, a licensed firearm holder, shot Musumbi at close range during the confrontation.

The case is scheduled for mention on August 3, 2017.
