Anthony Njuguna Kimani has been formally charged with insurance fraud at the Milimani Law Courts, in violation of Section 204(1)(b) in conjunction with Section 204B of the Insurance Act, Cap 487 of the Laws of Kenya.

During his appearance before Magistrate Dolphina Alego, Kimani pleaded not guilty to a single count of insurance fraud. The court was informed that on various occasions between January 1, 2017, and May 30, 2017, at the head office of Madison Insurance Kenya Limited located in Upper Hill, Nairobi, he allegedly conspired with unidentified accomplices to defraud the insurer of Sh 5,522,021.

As a caregiver at the company, he is accused of willfully presenting himself in the fraudulent registration of the deceased, Joseph Nganga Kariuki, as a beneficiary member of the Nakuru County Assembly Medical Scheme, utilizing a falsified employment number. It is claimed that Kimani misrepresented the deceased as an employee of the County, fully aware that this assertion was false.
