Cameroonian Fraudster's Bond Scrapped, Leads to Rearrest at JKIA

A Nairobi court has revoked the bail conditions previously granted to Joseph De Dieu Malachie Krodogo, a Cameroonian facing fraud charges, after he was rearrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) while allegedly trying to leave the country.

Krodogo had been released on bond on December 17, 2024, with the stipulation that he surrender his passport. However, on August 19, 2025, he was apprehended at JKIA while attempting to board a flight to Manila, Philippines, using a newly issued passport. His arrest was facilitated by a red alert that had been issued earlier.

During the proceedings at the Milimani law courts, Magistrate Dolphina Alego granted the prosecution’s request to cancel Krodogo’s bail, citing his violation of the bond terms and labeling him a flight risk.

The prosecution argued that Krodogo’s actions demonstrated a clear intent to evade the court’s jurisdiction, stating that he did not qualify for further bail. In his defense, Krodogo claimed he was not trying to escape but was traveling for urgent medical treatment, asserting that he intended to return within five days.

He argued that if he had wanted to flee, he would not have gone through JKIA. The prosecution countered that he should have sought permission before leaving the country, emphasizing that ignorance of the law is not a valid excuse.

The case is scheduled for a hearing on August 20, 2025, in Court No. 3 at the Milimani Law Courts. Krodogo, along with co-defendants Ibrahim Wasso and Alhaji Adebyo, is charged with conspiring to defraud a Nairobi businessman of 25 million Kenyan shillings in a fraudulent gold deal, where they allegedly posed as dealers capable of exporting gold but failed to deliver after receiving payment.
