Sammy Louis Karanja has entered a plea of not guilty to charges of land fraud totaling Sh350 million, as presented before Magistrate Ondieki at the Milimani Law Courts.
He is accused of collaborating with unidentified individuals to defraud Hasmita Patel, operating as Holloway Properties Limited, of a 1.591-hectare piece of land located along Mombasa Road in Nairobi.
The allegations include the forgery of a land grant dated November 23, 2001, which Karanja allegedly presented as authentic. Additionally, he faces a charge of forging the signature of a commissioner of lands on this document, falsely claiming it was legitimately issued by Jane Kanja.
Furthermore, Karanja is charged with unlawfully obtaining Sh12 million from Onda Concrete on November 10, 2023, by falsely asserting his ability to lease land to them. He has been released on a bond of Sh50 million or a cash bail of Sh10 million, with a pretrial hearing scheduled for June 23, 2025.
