PCEA Shalom Mchanganyiko Church in Nakuru, Kenya, has become the focal point of a tragic incident following the arrest of a 17-year-old girl by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
This arrest is linked to the heartbreaking murder of a three-year-old girl, whose body was found near the church in Menengai. The swift apprehension of the suspect, identified as Lizz Njeri Mwangi, comes after authorities received a distressing report about a child discovered unconscious about 50 meters from the church.
Despite immediate medical attention, the young victim, named Margaret Wanjiru Kirathe, was declared dead upon arrival at Kenlands Hospital. Initial investigations suggest that Mwangi allegedly enticed Margaret away from the church and subsequently took her to a secluded location, where she is accused of strangling the child with a piece of cloth.
The motive behind this brutal act is still being investigated by the DCI. Acting on vital intelligence, a specialized team from the DCI conducted an operation that led them to the suspect’s home in Judea Village, located in Menengai Sub-Location within Kiamaina Ward. During the arrest, officers found the clothing the suspect wore while committing the crime, as seen in CCTV footage, along with a piece of fabric believed to have been used in the strangulation.
Lizz Njeri Mwangi is now in police custody, where she is being processed as the investigation continues. She is anticipated to be brought before the court soon as the DCI works to strengthen its case. This alarming incident underscores the vulnerability of young children and reflects the DCI’s dedication to ensuring that those responsible for such offenses are held accountable. The community is eager for more information as the investigation advances and the legal proceedings begin.
