A lecturer from the University of Nairobi, Vincent Mbindo Kathumo, faced charges today involving three counts of soliciting and accepting bribes from a student in exchange for awarding exam marks after the student was caught cheating in the previous semester.
The alleged offenses reportedly took place on January 18, 2017, at the university’s Upper Kabete Campus, where Kathumo is accused of demanding 5,000 shillings from a student named Duncan Kibet to grant him favorable exam results. Additionally, he is charged with accepting 3,000 shillings from Kibet as part of the bribe in the Uthiru area of Nairobi.

Furthermore, Kathumo is also accused of demanding an additional 2,000 shillings in cash and 3,000 shillings via M-Pesa, with the intent to steal. He has denied all allegations before Anti-Corruption Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi and has been released on a bond of 100,000 shillings or a cash bail of 80,000 shillings.
